Puis le regard s\u2019arr\u00eate sur un d\u00e9tail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un d\u00e9tail qui glace litt\u00e9ralement le sang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur le flanc d\u2019une vache se trouve un trou parfaitement rond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisse. Propre.
Pas une blessure d\u00e9chir\u00e9e. Pas une trace d\u2019accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On dirait presque une petite fen\u00eatre d\u00e9coup\u00e9e dans un corps vivant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La premi\u00e8re r\u00e9action est presque toujours la m\u00eame : l\u2019incr\u00e9dulit\u00e9. Beaucoup pensent imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 une image truqu\u00e9e, \u00e0 un montage choquant destin\u00e9 \u00e0 provoquer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ces animaux existent r\u00e9ellement. On les appelle les vaches fistul\u00e9es. Les v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaires pratiquent une op\u00e9ration chirurgicale qui cr\u00e9e un acc\u00e8s direct au premier estomac de la vache, le rumen. L\u2019ouverture est ensuite ferm\u00e9e par un large bouchon en plastique, semblable \u00e0 un petit couvercle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oui.
Un v\u00e9ritable \u00ab hublot \u00bb dans le corps d\u2019un animal vivant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 est utilis\u00e9 dans certaines fermes exp\u00e9rimentales et dans des centres de recherche \u00e0 travers le monde. Les scientifiques s\u2019en servent pour observer et analyser le processus de digestion des vaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En ouvrant ce bouchon, ils peuvent pr\u00e9lever des \u00e9chantillons, \u00e9tudier les bact\u00e9ries, mesurer l\u2019acidit\u00e9 et comprendre comment l\u2019herbe se transforme en \u00e9nergie, en lait\u2026 et en viande.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le plus troublant, c\u2019est le comportement de l\u2019animal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La vache reste calme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle respire. Elle m\u00e2che lentement. Parfois elle remue la queue, comme si tout allait bien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme si ce trou n\u2019existait pas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce contraste cr\u00e9e un malaise difficile \u00e0 expliquer. Devant vous se tient un animal vivant, paisible\u2026 et pourtant, dans son flanc, se trouve une ouverture ferm\u00e9e par un bouchon de plastique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les d\u00e9fenseurs de cette m\u00e9thode affirment que l\u2019op\u00e9ration est r\u00e9alis\u00e9e sous anesth\u00e9sie et que, une fois cicatris\u00e9e, la vache ne ressent pas de douleur. Selon eux, ces recherches permettent d\u2019am\u00e9liorer l\u2019alimentation des troupeaux, de pr\u00e9venir certaines maladies digestives et m\u00eame de r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions de m\u00e9thane responsables du r\u00e9chauffement climatique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transformer un animal vivant en laboratoire biologique est-il vraiment acceptable ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les photos de ces vaches circulent r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement sur internet et provoquent des r\u00e9actions violentes. Certains internautes parlent de science n\u00e9cessaire. D\u2019autres parlent de cruaut\u00e9 d\u00e9guis\u00e9e en progr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et peut-\u00eatre que la chose la plus inqui\u00e9tante dans toute cette histoire n\u2019est pas le trou lui-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais la facilit\u00e9 avec laquelle le monde finit par s\u2019y habituer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir vu une telle sc\u00e8ne, un simple verre de lait n\u2019a plus tout \u00e0 fait la m\u00eame signification. Un morceau de fromage semble soudain porter une histoire invisible, une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 que beaucoup pr\u00e9f\u00e8rent ignorer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Derri\u00e8re la tranquillit\u00e9 apparente des champs et le calme des fermes se cache parfois une v\u00e9rit\u00e9 d\u00e9rangeante \u2014 un m\u00e9lange complexe de science, d\u2019\u00e9conomie et de choix moraux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
